The Great Ocean Road is one of Australia’s most iconic drives and an absolute must do when travelling through Victoria. Stretching along rugged coastline and dramatic ocean cliffs, this journey delivers breathtaking views, stunning natural landmarks and unforgettable moments around every bend.
We explored the Great Ocean Road without the caravan, which made it easy to stop frequently and take in all the incredible lookouts along the way. From winding coastal roads to sweeping ocean views, every section of the drive feels postcard perfect.
Of course, no trip is complete without visiting the famous Twelve Apostles and the spectacular Gibson Steps. Watching the waves crash against the limestone cliffs is something you truly have to see in person. Along the way, charming seaside towns like Lorne and Apollo Bay offer great spots to grab a coffee, stretch your legs and enjoy the relaxed coastal vibe.
While we didn’t tow the caravan on this trip, the Great Ocean Road is definitely doable with a caravan. There are plenty of well located caravan parks and coastal campgrounds along the route, making it easy to break up the drive and stay overnight while enjoying everything the region has to offer. Taking your time and planning your stops makes the journey comfortable and incredibly rewarding for caravanners.
One of the best parts of travelling the Great Ocean Road is slowing down and enjoying the journey itself. Pull over at the scenic lookouts, take a walk along the beaches, and soak in just how incredible Australia’s coastline really is.
Whether you do it as a day trip or take a few days to explore, the Great Ocean Road is an experience that reminds you why getting out on the road and discovering new places is what travel is all about.
